Just how powerful is this relationship? Well, it’s intense enough that Jesus left heaven, put on human flesh, endured mockery, torture and death just to prove his desire to be real in your life. Sure, it happened a couple thousand years ago, but rest assured that Jesus still wants you as much now as he did before you were born. By doing this, Jesus created a way for you to know him and God the Father directly by dying on the cross as a perfect, sinless man for us, everyone, all of us as sinners.
You see, Jesus provides a choice for you to make. A choice to trust and follow him. He could force your actions and words, but that’s not love, that’s brute force.
Other faiths believe in a distant god that one can never know on an intimate level. Jesus wants to know you and you him. He wants to help guide you through life and make it as fulfilling as life on a flawed planet can be.
The love that Jesus has for us, all people, is proven by the grace he offers. Salvation is available to all who ask and accept him. Other religions offer salvation through religious works. Put differently, other religions require that you do religious actions to earn the right to be in their presence. Christianity is different as Jesus loves you unconditionally — no one can earn something that is freely given.
Jesus wants you to want him. You were created to know him, live for him and be with him in heaven. Nothing else. The other aspects of our lives are to show and give the love we receive from him.
Yes, you will sin again, disappoint God again, as every Christian does. God already knows that you’ll sin; it’s part of the choice he gave us. The good news is that through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we have access to unlimited grace. A grace that isn’t just, “Oh, it’s ok” but an “I love you so much that I forgive you because I want you close to me and to trust me.” God forgives all people for being imperfect, broken and poor. That’s who, what and why he is — Love.
